Tech Conspiracies That Are Going Nowhere
from the don't-bet-on-it dept
A nice bit of filler from News.com talking about a bunch of "conspiracy theories" in the technology world that are unlikely to ever come true, such as Apple moving to Intel chips and Microsoft moving to Canada. Some seem to have a little more basis in reality than others. Some are just silly (Microsoft is involved in pure evil). Others keep popping up year after year, such as the rumor that the PC is going away. On this one, he makes a good point: the PC is like a car. Sure, it would be more fuel efficient to use public transportation, but that misses the point of why everyone wants their own car - owning the actual car gives them flexibility and power not available in public transportation. Sure it would be more cost efficient to just have terminals connected to the internet, but that misses the point on owning your own PC - giving users flexibility and power of having everything locally.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

Microsoft *IS* pure evil...
But, Mike, MicrosoftTM IS pure EvilTM. How can that be silly? I believe Dr. Evil was in the process of acquiring Microsoft since they were the largest consumer of products of his current evil enterprise, the StarbucksTM Corporation. Check your facts man! After all, there is no coincidence that both MicrosoftTM and StarbucksTM were founded in the same state of Washington...That was one of Dr. Evil's hideouts in the 60's, my former boss, who now lives in Washington State works as a henchman for Dr. Evil.
