Samsung Vows To Beat Nokia

It's good to have goals. And, if you're in a competitive market, it's good to aim for the #1 spot. Still, it's raising a few eyebrows to hear Samsung claim that they're planning to catch up and overtake Nokia by 2010 in the mobile phone market. Even if you do believe that internally, it's a big step to state those goals publicly as well. Samsung certainly has come on strong in the handset market, so it will be interesting to watch how they go about achieving those goals. Recently there has been some evidence of cracks in Nokia's armor, but they've managed to hold that leadership position for quite a while, and I doubt they're going to give it up easily.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

    Samsung #1

It will probably happen, they are A) growing seadily, and B) have better brand loyalty across the board than Nokia does in my neck of the woods.
