Cure Your Internet Addiction Online...

from the surf-on-over dept

In the past we've had fun making fun of psychologists worried about "internet addiction", but people get accused of it all the time. A columnist in New Zealand decided this need to be investigated, after being accused of spending too much time online. Of course, her investigation consisted of taking a variety of online quizzes to see if she was really addicted to the internet. She also found a number of online help sites for internet addiction - which does seem a bit like having an AA meeting at a bar.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

Thanks for pointing to this article. I plan to dedicate the rest of my life to researching internet addiction sites so I can determine whether I suffer from this terrifying malady.

    All in fun, but..

One thing these folks forget is that some of us earn our living this way.

Yes, I spend many hours of the day "on-line". But every job requires many hours doing something: are long distance truckers "addicted" to Big Rigs?
