Video Gaming Leads To Hospitalization For Boy

from the beware dept

Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is commonly called "economy class syndrome" as it seems to happen most frequently on people stuck in economy class airplane seats for extended periods of time. Basically, it's a situation where blood clots develop in leg veins - mostly due to someone sitting in the same position for a long time. It's potentially fatal. However, this may be the first known case of a kid developing DVT while playing a video game for too long. He was apparently kneeling on his legs, and playing games for quite some time. Of course, it makes you wonder how someone could sit still for so long. On airplanes, there aren't many options, but a kid playing a video game can at least adjust how he's sitting.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

Haven't several kids died in Korea while gaming at Gaming Cafes?

      Re: No Subject Given

Well, yes... that's if by gaming cafe's you mean staunch battlefields along the 34th parrallel.. or any other parrallel for that matter. From my research, which has been extensive - reaching up into five minutes now, children in Korea play with live ammunition on their "Play Dates" with other children. "Play Dates" is the loving Korean term for military service
