UK Motorists Ignore Driving While Yakking Ban
from the what-would-work? dept
Just like in New York, it appears that drivers in the UK are pretty much ignoring the ban on driving while yakking - even though they admit that it makes driving less safe. This shouldn't be much of surprise - especially since enforcement of the law seems to be lacking. So, here's a question: what would make people stop driving while yakking (or any other similar distraction)?Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

Well since new cell phones that are coming out are GPS enabled, how about a mild electric shock given to the user if the phone is in use while in motion? :)

engine vibration = no service
Then, of course, you'd have to re-legislate common sense for the ninnies who would drive with their heads in a sound-proof bag.

I think the reality is, this is something that's probably worth having a law about but basically you have to accept it's unenforceable.
Driving barefoot is illigal in some states.

Re: engine vibration = no service
Its impossible to legislate common sense.
