AMD Builds A WiFi Network By Questionable Means

from the so-that's-how-you-do-it... dept

Last week we wrote about claims that AMD was going to offer free hotspots by pointing out that it sounded like a more truthful description of the situation was that they were going around asking free hotspots to provide AMD stickers in the window - something of a contrast to Intel's Centrino program that involved Intel employees going out and testing every hotspot they approved. Now, WiFi Networking News has done a bit of sleuthing and turned up that AMD is, indeed, just asking those who have already set up WiFi hotspots to be included in their directory. Worse, in many instances, they're just putting up the stickers at locations - without consent by location owners, or the operators of the WiFi hotspots. While some shop owners don't mind (more publicity and all that), others are quite annoyed at this bit of corporate vandalism.
