Spy Cameras In Shanghai Internet Cafes
from the why-not-just-make-them-wear-cameras-all-the-time dept
Already all internet usage in China is heavily monitored and filtered. However, apparently that's not enough for their internet cafes. It's not even enough to have internet cafe operators monitor usage to make sure nothing "bad" is happening. Instead, they're going one step further to install video cameras in internet cafes which send a broadcast to a central "supervisory center" where someone will make sure that nothing bad is happening. They claim it was spot illegal activity "immediately" - though they don't explain what they'll do after they spot that illegal activity. What's the next step? Having everyone wear their own camera all the time and have it send a constant stream to the same "supervisory center" in case you do or see anything bad?Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

Wireless cameras
The WiFi module IP-NET is part of the innovative market of micro IP cameras that use Internet to transmit images of environments or people in real time.
This formidable audio video monitoring device uses a tiny camera with a 5 Mega pixel CMOS sensor with 90° view angle pinhole lens and brightness balancing, and built-in microphone. Furthermore it has a supplied antenna for wireless connection and a micro SD card for data storage.
User friendly and easily configurable, the module IP-NET no requires special operations for installation. It’s enough to have an Internet connection and the application interface client will follow you step by step for settings of remote connection. It’s possible to customize and install the device in everyday objects such as wall clocks or generally small appliances.
