AT&T Wireless To Introduce The How Many Bars Do You Have Man
from the form-of-flattery dept
Now that AT&T Wireless is trying to bounce back from all the troubles they've been having, they've decided to steal a page from competitor Verizon Wireless. While they promise that they've fixed a lot of the problems that caused them problems and have very publicly apologized, they're also starting up a marketing campaign that will try to get the phrase "How many bars do you have?" as famous as "Can you hear me now?" I can just imagine the thought process. AT&T Wireless execs standing in a bunch of mobile phone users listening to what they're saying, knowing they can't use "Can you hear me now?" Maybe it's just me, but "How many bars do you have?" just isn't that convincing.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

Hope people have short memories...
Rather a sad "me, too" advertising play, in any case.

I heard it this morning...
I was driving into work this morning and I heard it... just as I was passing the Cingular Corporate Headquarters in the Philly area.
