Are Spammers Leaving The Business?
from the so-they-say dept
It appears that the combination of technology solutions and legal crackdowns on spammers may be having some effect on a few of the weaker willed spammers. USA Today is reporting that some spammers are finding other lines of work. I'd be more encouraged if there were a corresponding decrease in the amount of spam - but most studies seem to show that it's increasing (and my own personal stats support this). One interesting note is that some spammers say they plan on becoming "reformed" spammers who try to come up with better anti-spam solutions. Can you trust a spammer to help stop spam? I'm not so sure.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

anyone who's an adult with even minimal internet experience, who thought it was OK to do this to earn a few bucks does not have the basic ethical make up that deserves any kind of trust.

They see the light
I'll bet " reformed " spammers will be as annoying as reborn christians, ex-smokers & tele-marketers ...
