New Study Says People Not Afraid To Shop Online

from the conflicting-studies dept

It was just last week (wasn't it?) that we had a study (paid for by a company that wanted to provide secure transaction software) saying that people were going to shop less online due to fear of fraud and scams like phishing (which have nothing to do with shopping online). This week, thanks to some research paid for by PayPal/eBay we have a study saying exactly the opposite. It turns out, according to this study, that the increase in stories about these scams means that shoppers are much more sophisticated and careful about buying online, but they're planning to buy more and many feel the internet is much safer for shopping these days. In other words, you can't trust either study as both are impossibly biased by the money that paid for them.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

    Pro online shopping

Well 5 minutes ago, between taking technical support calls for my employer, I used mysimon.com to purchase a copy of The Kids in The Hall's " Brain Candy " for a total of 9.36 delivered in a few days to my door via deepdiscountdvds.com ... since I've ordered there before, it took me more time to write this reply then it did for me to purchase the DVD.

I relish the ease, cost factor, and simplicity of online shopping.

Does anyone actually go to the mall for these things today ?
