IT Managers Have Spam Under Control

from the lucky-worker-bees dept

A year and a half ago, we wrote about a study saying that most people didn't get too much spam at the office. It was mostly a personal email account problem. Nowadays, Symantec was surprised to find that the results are basically the same: most people don't think spam is a problem at work - if they're ordinary employees. The IT staff, however, tells a very different story. To them, spam is a huge problem. What this suggests, of course, is that the IT staff, for all their hair pulling, is actually doing a fairly good job blocking spam and keeping it out of employee inboxes.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

On average, I'd say that I get a touch more spam at work, than at "home," but then again I am the sys admin who deals with the at home filters (spamprobe, spamassassin and good ol' /etc/mail/access)
