Brains And Braun vs. Sleek And Stylish
Not exactly a new topic, but it looks like more people are beginning to realize that there's a bit of a dichotomy in the mobile phone market these days, as the hefty smartphones take on the sleek and stylish regular mobile phones. The question some wonder about is whether people are willing to jump to a larger phone -- after years of demanding smaller and smaller phones -- just to get the additional features and larger screen. Of course, this doesn't always need to be an either or sort of situation. While there's a clear split now, and people will decide based on what they use their phone for, it's not impossible to see a world where you use a smartphone for some things and a smaller, not so smart mobile phone for times when the smaller size is more convenient. While, right now, subscribers can move numbers by moving SIM cards (if they're using a GSM phone), how long will it take until that process is more automated -- such as having multiple phones working off the same number? Derek adds: and lets not forget the personal gateway idea.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
