What The Hell Are The Carriers Offering?

A new study has shown that wireless carriers still haven't quite gotten the hang of clearly describing exactly what their calling plans are, and for that reason, customers aren't signing up for them. In fact, the report suggests that carriers are losing $3 billion per year due to the churn and damaged brands from the way carriers communicate with subscribers. While you could question exactly how they came up with the $3 billion number (it may be losses for some, gains for others, after all...), there's no doubt that carriers could and should do a much better job communicating with customers what their options are, and trying to make sure that the plans meet their needs. It's not just the calling plans, either, as bills and general information seem to be presented in a confusing, non-customer friendly manner. These things seem fairly obvious, but so far, not much has been done to improve the situation.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
