The Aliens Made Me Speed, And Other Speed Camera Excuses
from the fun-for-the-whole-family dept
Following on the long series of stories we've had about faulty speed cameras, comes this bit of fluff about the worst excuses people send in after being caught by such cameras. Rather than just pointing out the cameras may be faulty there are things like: "I had passed out after seeing flashing lights, which I believed to be UFOs in the distance. The flash of the camera brought me round from my trance," "I was in the airport's flight path and I believe the camera was triggered by a jet overhead, not my car," and "The vibrations from the surfboard I had on the roof rack set off the camera." It seems like more work to come up with these excuses then to just pay the fine and move on. Update: Though not speed camera related, Engadget has the story of the best excuse ever for getting into a car accident: the driver was simply following the directions of his onboard GPS system.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
