A Rating System For The News
from the news-you-can-trust? dept
Just yesterday we brought up Sam Whitmore's idea from last year of a Zagat's style rating system for news sources. Apparently, the timing was right. Today, Business Week is pointing out that just such a service is launching, called Newstrust. Now it will be interesting to see whether or not it actually matters. How many people would actually pay attention to the such a rating? People find the sites they like and they stick with them. Also, this isn't quite a Zagat's-style system, as it's just rating the overall sites, rather than rating them on various issues.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

New is forsale...
All you need to do is travel around a bit and you'll get an idea that, from country to country, the takes on the "news" is very, very different.
One should *NEVER* confuse "News"(tm) with the "Truth"(R) or even "Reality"(c).
