Reporters Can't Get The Story Straight

from the which-way-does-it-go... dept

A few years ago, we noticed two different news stories (not opinion pieces) written by the Guardian in the UK that took the same exact study, but claimed it had completely opposite conclusions. It appears that other news organizations are guilty of this as well. The eagle eyed folks at Engadget have noticed that Techweb published two different stories today about a study concerning the future of Tablet PCs. The two stories are based on the same study. One says: "Tablet PC Faces Uncertain Future, Analyst Says" while the other, "Tablet PCs Headed For Broader Use, Study Says." Apparently, Techweb is playing "choose your own conclusion" with its articles these days.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

We've got to remember the "tech web" did not write the articles but I assume TWO different writers did...we are human.

    Re: The

But Techweb *did* publish them... On a professional news site that has editors, you would think this would have been noticed. But, sure, people make mistakes. It doesn't make it any less amusing.
