High Gas Prices Drive Online Shopping... Even If In-Store Pickup Is Better
from the choices,-choices dept
Last month, we noted that the huge jump in gas prices lately could help fuel more interest in telecommuting. However, it could also help boost other areas online as well. For instance, a new study shows that gas prices are causing more people to shop online, rather than go to the store. Of course, this is all based on a survey, so people may not be telling the truth. It's likely that lots of people think that shopping online to save gas is a good idea -- but whether or not they really do so is a different question. In fact, another study came out today (on the same site, too) saying most shoppers would prefer to buy online, but pickup at the local store if they could. So, maybe it's really just lower gas prices that they're shopping for online.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
