Naked, Drunk Britons A Growing Net Retail Force

from the nobody-wants-to-see-that dept

A new study says British people like to get drunk and/or naked, then shop online in increasing numbers. It says 7 percent of Britons know somebody that's gotten drunk, then bought stuff they didn't need online, and 6 percent know people that have shopped online sans clothing. Part of a study into online spending behaviour, the results "pose a number of questions for retailers as they develop new online products and services," says somebody from the company that conducted it. Does he mean online retailers should better tailor their services to naked drunk people? Or should they simply encourage people to get drunk, then naked, then shop? eBay seems to exploit this pretty well -- after all, "Oh, I had a few drinks then got on eBay and found it" seems to have worked its way into common parlance these days.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

    I have this friend......

You have to wonder about the results of any poll on somewhat embarrassing topics.

A few years ago, watching pornography was a huge taboo, and no one would admit to enjoying it, much less watching it.

The apparent anonymity of the internet has helped to break down social barriers for both good and bad.
