Swallowing Mobile Phones May Be Considered Harmful

from the just-saying dept

While we know that the holidays are supposed to be a peaceful time to spend with family and friends, it can also be quite stressful for many people and fights with loved ones are bound to break out here and there. Now, as a holiday suggestion, we're going to recommend that should your fight with your significant other get serious, that you not swallow his or her mobile phone in an attempt to keep said significant other from leaving. Unfortunately, this advice comes a bit too late for a woman in Missouri who tried to swallow her boyfriend's phone to prevent him from leaving after an argument. The event resulted in her being rushed to the hospital with difficulty breathing. No word on whether or not the boyfriend actually left (or if he got the phone back). Update: Later police reports are saying that the phone swallowing may not have been voluntary -- though the rest of the details have not been explained.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

    What Model

I've loved my RAZR for its slim design but I can't imagine being able to swallow it, now maybe my old nokia 8230 but still my throat just isn't big enough. Anyone know what model was she using? or is this one of those whales you see walking around that can swallow a newborn without chewing?

That's not exactly how I heard it went down. No pun intended. Local news reported that the Blue Springs couple (suburb of Kansas City) was arguing over calls the girlfriend had received. The boyfriend tried to get the phone from her to review said calls and she swallowed her own phone getting it lodged in her throat, because the boyfriend reportedly called police from his own phone.

Here is a much more exciting topic for those who don't yet merge with technology quite the way some others do... Yikes!!

Plainly, RICHO is pushing the PDF format they are the largest manufacturer of the ps printing devices in the world. Post Script is not a value I want crossing my domain in the way of VR and the MATRIX EVOlution... It's code is actually very laden with open holes in the binding area.

    Funnuy Thing to Try

He should have called the phone, and taped it, I always wanted to know what that looks like.
    "Ghh aa Ghaaa ghaa"
    "Sorry honey, can't understand you"
    "Ghhhh nghooooo!"
    "RING RING!"
    "GHHHH!!!"
"What? What was that? You don't want me to waste your minutes, but if you do it it's ok? Huh?"

    cell phone

Why not try to cram a cell phone down your own throat. Then you will see that it is not only impossible for a young girl to do it to herself, but probably crammed down her throat by not her boyfriend, but a stalker, an assaulter, an abductor. I am her step-mother.

    Boyfriend arrested

If anyone is interested... the boyfriend actually forced the phone down the woman's throat after arguing over calls she had received. He turned himself in today (12/28/2005).
