Fox Interactive Decides It's Time To Make Money
from the one-last-piece-of-the-puzzle dept
For a lot of startups these days, it doesn't really matter that they don't have a real business model, because the game is all about selling out to a large buyer. But once the company becomes a unit of a larger corporation, top brass may actually want to see some results. So if you're FOX, and you want to start monetizing the various purchases you've made, you hire a -- wait for it -- Chief Revenue Officer. The position is what it sounds like, as the CRO is responsible for, well, bringing in revenue. Apparently, such positions were created after the .com bust, once companies realized they couldn't pay the rent in eyeballs or pageviews. The good news is that companies aren't waiting for things to collapse before they get the idea to start trying to make money.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

Being CRO
Who says we should privatize any government? Corporations are just as bad bureaucratically and politically as the US government.
