Survey Says Cellular Calls Are Getting Better
from the if-you-say-so dept
A new survey says that complaints about the quality of wireless networks in the US are at an all-time low, adding that 3G technologies which can increase network capacity are largely to thank. Still, these results are based on customer-reported answers to survey questions, rather than anything more objective, so we can't help but wonder if things have actually improved, and operators are offering markedly better service than they have before, or if consumers' expectations have simply dropped. It probably won't really matter, though, given the operators' penchant for coming up with their own reasons why their network is the "best", so the ones at the top of the list will gladly accept the accolades and move on. This survey almost gives the impression, though, that call quality has improved mostly because of technology, rather than any real effort by the operators to make their service better (though such a conclusion might be splitting hairs) -- and that's not too hard to believe, with the widespread dissatisfaction with the level of service they generally provide.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.
