Australian Net Censorship Plan Delayed Temporarily
from the getting-censorship-ducks-in-a-row dept
There's been plenty of protests against Australia's latest plan to censor the internet, but it appears that the reason the filtering plan has been delayed yet again has little to do with tone deaf government officials suddenly having second thoughts -- but much more to do with the government's own inability to get its censorship act together in time. The whole process has been a bit of a mess from the beginning, so no surprise that the government would screw up its own launch efforts as well.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

"Countrywide, homicides are up 3.2 percent;
Assaults are up 8.6 percent;
Amazingly, armed robberies have climbed nearly 45 percent;
In the Australian state of Victoria, gun homicides have climbed 300 percent;
In the 25 years before the gun bans, crime in Australia had been dropping steadily;
There has been a reported "dramatic increase" in home burglaries and assaults on the elderly. "

Idiot Labor
I will never accept my freedoms being tampered with and any government that tries will never get my vote ever again.
All Australian people should feel the same way.
I feel violated. They are history in the next election.
The first one term government since Gough Whitlam.
