Italian Recording Industry Sues Pirate Bay As Well

from the but-of-course dept

Another day, another lawsuit for the Pirate Bay team. This time, it's taking place in Italy, where the local recording industry associations FIMI (Federazione Industria Musicale Italiana) and FPM (Federation against Musical Piracy) have announced plans to sue three of the individuals believed to be responsible for The Pirate Bay. This isn't a huge surprise. A year ago, after complaints about The Pirate Bay, a court ordered ISPs to block access to the site, only to have a court overturn that ruling. And, of course, in the end all it really did was bring a lot more attention to The Pirate Bay in Italy. Considering that The Pirate Bay doesn't appear to have any operations in Italy either, it's not entirely clear that this lawsuit actually matters. And, also, there's the issue that the three guys being sued here claim to not have any ownership of The Pirate Bay at all.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

    Sigh

    Dear Europe:

I want to introduce you to a great modern day tool: the dictionary. It's awesome. If you have any questions as to the meaning of words, you open up the fuckin' book, find the word, and BAM!......meaning.

Might I suggest, just as an aside, that you open the book to the "S" section and take a look at the definition of sovereign. It's a keen little word that basically states that you've all lost your goddamn minds.

Oh, and look, if you WANT to be the United States of Europe, go right ahead. But no more Italian food...no no no, that's European food. The Greek ruins? European ruins. Stonehenge? Europehenge.....wait....

In any case, you don't wanna do that, trust me. You're charm is your significant cultures crammed into diverse little subsections, all of you with your own batshit customs and rules that make sense to no one but you, but are a source of pride for those in your country. Hey, take it from an American...at least you have a culture. All we can do is ruin yours.

    Good night, and good luck.

    Love,

    Dark Helmet

PS. That's enough with the antisemitism you idiots. If I were you, I'd be a lot more concerned with all the Swiss and German last names in your banks...

While I see the humor in your post, I'm tired of this, "America has no culture," crap.

America has culture. Not just as a singular nation (The United States) but regional as well.

As for ruining culture? Personally I blame the Entertainment Industry's legal arms for that one. It's akin to the act of conquerors cutting the heads off of statues and burning manuscripts!

      Liz:

I understand exactly what you mean. Please understand that when I talk about America, I generally talk about the American Empire, not American citizens in generality.

The Empire is the business/government. Funny how it's the tourists that get smacked with the retribution.

The only real culture in america is the stuff growing out by the cesspools.

That being said, back to the story:

TPB guys are seeing what it's like to have a crack in the armor. I would suggest they better work double time to hide the money and sell off the last of that GGF stock (now we are seriously on the shorting side of this one to make money). The party is over, it's just a matter of time before the legal issues exceed whatever money you can squeeze out with your razzle dazzle moves.

Nice graphs for the law firms who don't get the hint above:

(we used to have a nice graph here, but it's simpler to just say: 0 torrents has been removed, and 0 torrents will ever be removed.)

You appear to be the one on crack, it is never going away, and like #7 stated , 0 torrents will ever be removed.

Do you even know what torrents are? Maybe you should write a nice letter to the TPB guys, they need some new material for their legal threats page.

Ahh, the coward appears. Very nice troll post, there. Tell me, did you get your degree from a Cracker Jack box, or is it just crack you're on? A torrent, by itself, is not infringing material. That would be like being charge for armed robbery for picking up a map because it shows you how to get to both a gun store and a bank.

          Re: Re: Re: @ #6

More like a box with a gun, a map to the bank, and a recording of "how to rob a bank" and a stick up note. Oh yeah, they give you a taxi ride to the bank and push you up to the teller and stand right behind you to make sure you do it right.

          Accessory. Next.

    Copyright infringement

Blimey they seem to be copping it. I do have to say though that if CDs and music related items weren't as overpriced as they have been, eg if a cd was £5, I would buy more Cd's. £16.99 is just ridiculous so I go without a lot.

They got too greedy at the record companies, they call it "developing talent" and investing in other artists, what other business can do that? Maybe they need to educate their talent scouts!

Translation: Internet technology? You mean that evil thing that's killing my bosses' coffers? Everything has to go. And don't even think of using the word rights ever again. It's copyrighted. No pun intended. Sorry If I sound arrogant. Can't help it. I'm smart and, unlike India and China, creative.

    Hope translation helped.

My country's educational system beating yous at the moment and since I can remember. That's a fact.

The Copyright Masters defeat internet technology. That's a delusion.

As in The God Delusion. Only bigger.
