Cyclist Floyd Landis Accused Of Illegal Computer Hacking
from the doping-and-hacking dept
Apparently, a French court has issued an arrest warrant for cyclist Floyd Landis, who won the 2006 Tour de France, but then had the award stripped after he tested positive for abnormally high levels of testosterone, implying some kind of doping. Now, we've argued in the past that the line between drugs and other forms of performance enhancement is pretty blurry at times, but if you're caught breaking the rules, hacking into the computers of the lab holding your test results in an attempt to discredit them certainly doesn't look particularly sporting.Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

Or that they didn't spike his food? Or needle him in his sleep?
The whole story with Floyd Landis was weird to begin with and keeps getting weirder. I doubt the truth will ever be known.

Landis Was Framed
If you didn't know anything about the Landis case, if Landis was guilty, and he knew, it, what good would hacking into the lab do for him? How would getting at their records prove his innocence if he was actually guilty?
This is a case where the lab withheld and destroyed crucial evidence. I am inclined to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Re: Landis
So, you're saying CNET lied? Show your evidence or I'm inclined to think you're the one lying.

Re: Landis Was Framed
The theory is that he was fishing for some kind of technicality that he could use to get off. Some place where the lab forgot to cross a T or dot an I, so to speak.
