DailyDirt: Don't Just Talk About The Weather...
from the urls-we-dig-up dept
As the saying goes, nobody seems to do anything about changing the weather. Well, there actually are some people trying to control the weather. (And global climate change could be an inadvertent way that people are changing the weather, too.) So there are a lot of big problems that look unsolvable, but maybe if enough people work on them, we'll find solutions. Here are just some quick examples.- NASA could make it rain when it tested space shuttle rocket engines in the wetlands of Mississippi. Hydrogen fuel burned with oxygen produces water, but just adding water to the atmosphere doesn't necessarily produce a rainstorm. [url]
- China tried to control the weather around Beijing before the Summer Olympics of 2008. "Tried" is perhaps the key word, since weather modification isn't quite an exact science just yet. But then again, it didn't rain during the opening and closing ceremonies in 2008.... [url]
- Geoengineering climate change is even more ambitious -- and potentially dangerous. But given that the world hasn't stopped its CO2 emissions, it doesn't really hurt to put together some plans for correcting our atmospheric mistakes (whether or not they'll be needed). [url]
- To find some more bizarre/odd stuff, check out some things that other StumbleUpon users have found. [url]
Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

Controlling Climate Change??
If we really want to control the weather, we'd better start learning how to control the output from the sun.

Re: Controlling Climate Change??
Seriously, the way the weather seems to be all screwed up lately, I get the feeling that "someone" (insert your favorite conspirator here) has been trying to without fully understanding the consequences...

Atmospheric Phenomenon
I scanned a newspaper article on October 3, 2008 because of a very disturbing dream I had previous to seeing it. In my dream, I witnessed very strange clouds that formed over Jerusalem.
I write about the details of this dream in my book, The Prostitute: Who Came in From the Cold, as if it were the main character that had seen it. The book is a ‘fictional novel’, but not all the content is fictional; much of it is quite 'techy' and the dream was real.
