Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

    Carp in the tub

Carp are bottom feeders - keeping them in the bathtub for a day or two allows their systems to flush, and then they taste better.

    Puerto Ricans eat baked Ziti?

My brother in law is a NYC Puerto Rican and his family Christmas meal is a slow cooked pulled pork roast, with rice, salad, empanadas, and baked ziti. most of those I don't think are weird but the baked ziti through me.

    Jewish Christmas

Maybe in the US it's not considered strange any more and so it didn't make the list, but I recently heard of a curiously bizarre custom that developed among American Jews. Namely going out for Chinese food on Christmas. Here's more details:

    Christmas dinner isn't the same without . . .

    Intellectual Property!

I would share my turkey with you but . . . intellectual property!

You could have some of my stuffing, but . . . Copyright!

Mom would bring you all a piece of pie, but it is Patented.

    Christians?

Only about one percent of the Japanese population is Christian, but people stand in line for this commercial tradition.

I'm not sure how Christianity enters into this, really. Every non-Christian I know in the US (including myself) stands in various lines as part of Christmas commercial traditions.
