DailyDirt: Not-So-Fun Food Findings...

from the urls-we-dig-up dept

There are so many food choices -- but that doesn't make it any easier to eat healthy foods. Being hard-wired to enjoy sugar, salt and fat doesn't exactly help either. Diet resolutions for 2012 are just around the corner, but for now, we'll just point out a few quick links on eating food that might not be that good for you. By the way, StumbleUpon can also recommend some good Techdirt articles, too.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

    School/prison food doesn't surprise me

Especially in smaller communities, the meals are even fixed in the same kitchen before being shipped to various school, jail, and prison cafeterias. Probably prepared right alongside Meals On Wheels.

Prison food looks a bit better than school food.

It may be cheaper but it does seem a bit healthier from the description.

    Well, that confirms a stereotype.

Americans are school trained not to have any real sense of taste.

The cookie dough story.. who would be so silly as to buy pre-made cookie dough in the first place?

Correlation May Not Be The Same As Causation ...

... but I’m not sure how that can cause me to conclude anything.

Comparing prison food to school cafetaria food doesn't make for a very appetizing infographic.

For the prison meals, they forgot to list the percentage of bodily waste (urine & feces).
