No Big Surprise: After Public Outcry, IMDB Lets BitTorrent Movie In

from the the-power-of-public-outcry dept

We recently covered the story of how a filmmaker claimed (without much evidence) that IMDB wouldn't list his latest movie project, because he planned to release it via BitTorrent. It seemed like the real story was more one of IMDB people not sure that the movie was a "real movie" project, and wanting to hold off until it was further along. Either way, it looks like the public outcry about it caused IMDB to reconsider and put up a listing. Ah, the power of the public outcry...

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

    Not the first torrent movie.

This person might like to think they are the 'first' motion picture released legally on bittorrent, but they aren't.

For those that don't know or may be curious - try 'Star Wreck: In the Pirkininng' This may not have been the first legal movie released on Bittorrent, but it is the one I remember the best. And, it's pretty good too.

    IMDB: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0472566/

Recommended for anybody who liked Babylon 5 and Star Trek, who can also stand subtitles cause the main dialog isn't in english.
