DailyDirt: Weight Loss Drugs That Might Work... Someday

from the urls-we-dig-up dept

Obesity is a worldwide problem, affecting about 1.5 billion people. The World Health Organization estimates that about 10% of the world's adult population is obese. The cause of obesity isn't always clear, but the effects on health are significant. Diet and exercise are the first steps for addressing this health issue, but for some people, there's a need to go beyond that. Less than a handful of drugs are currently approved for long-term obesity treatment, but more might be on the way. Check out a few of these links, and maybe get up out of your chair and move a bit more.... After you've finished checking out those links, take a look at our Daily Deals for cool gadgets and other awesome stuff.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

There are drugs that cause weight loss but

you do have to have specific conditions and be taking other drugs first for those conditions and you had better be extremely careful with how you are taking them or you might find yourself in deadly danger.

I know, I am in that situation. 4 kilograms in 2 weeks and this is a side effect of the drugs in question not the primary goal of the drugs in question.

Once everything is back under control then off I will be from the weight loss side effect drug.

    Yeah right...

Here's a question for you: when have you last heard the sentence "Scientists have found the cure for "? I'll even accept "...a highly efficient treatment"! Well...? Yeah, that's what I thought.

From where I'm standing it look like we have picked most of the low hanging fruit, cured everything that could be cured with hygiene, antibiotics and vaccines, and now we're thumbing our noses at the rest - without the faintest idea what to do about them. With all the "advanced science" of the last half century - where's the cure (or a satisfactory treatment) for AIDS? Cancer? Alzheimer's? Parkinson's? Psoriasis? Ebola? C'mon, these are just the popular ones, none of them new...!

...you haven't got a fucking clue what you're doing, isn't it - and obesity is no different.

    Record of weightloss drugs

Seems like weight loss drugs tend to be dangerous, ineffective, or both in the case of really bad drugs for the purpose.

The only real way to lose the calories is the same way you got them in the first place, you have to work on it for a long time. No pain no gain.

    >Diet and exercise are the first steps

Exercise is fantastic for your health, but obesity is nearly always about diet alone.

That' true, supplements and diet pills can have varying side effects. For this reason, it is important that you be assured that the supplement you are taking will positively react with your body system and discuss any supplements or diet plans with your doctor. It is hard to tell which supplement will work best for you and which one won’t. You may find out that one supplements will produce the best effects for one person and another supplement didn’t work at all. I agree that diet and exercises are the most impotrant in losing weight.
