DailyDirt: Discovering More Life On Earth

from the urls-we-dig-up dept

While some environmentalists complain about the rate at which known species are dying, the absolute amount of biodiversity on Earth is actually not well known. There could be 100 million different species, but we've only identified about 2 million so far. Here are just a few recent developments that could help expand our databases of living species. If you'd like to read more awesome and interesting stuff, check out this unrelated (but not entirely random!) Techdirt post via StumbleUpon.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

The Dead Sea is awesome. The water is deadly to drink, but things still live in it. It is like an alien world right here on earth

    DailyDirt

FYI, I skip the DailyDirt articles because they do not bear on the subject at hand. Yawn.

      Tim,

Thanks for the feedback. Is there a particular theme you are interested in?

We're just trying to give people a break from the copyright/trademark/patent/policy posts.
