Making significant changes to digital images with software is getting more impressive all the time. As we've seen before, Photoshopping isn't just sticking to still-life, either. It won't be long before feature-length movies can be made with just some scraps of existing video clips (which has been done before) -- but it could be a bit better than What's Up, Tiger Lily? Or not.

Researchers have constructed 3D models of various celebrity faces from publicly-available images found online, and these face models can be used to re-create arbitrary videos. It's not perfect, so there's definitely some "uncanny valley" moments in a fake video of Obama's face speaking GW Bush's words. It may get more difficult to determine what's real on TV, and voice impersonators could be getting some better roles soon. [url]
Disney has its own nifty video editing tools, and one called FaceDirector can change an actor's emotions instantaneously. Post production editing might help directors fix scenes without re-shooting, but... can it fix the Star Wars prequels now? [url]
Photoshop tennis is an amusing game of passing around images to be edited by different artists. Maybe someday there will be a video version -- and Layer Tennis (or whatever it'll be called) won't be limited to Adobe products? [url]
Apple just bought a smaller company called Faceshift -- gaining the ability to capture facial expressions and create real-time avatars. It's anyone's guess what Apple will do with this tech, but pretty soon we'll all have the ability to be like Andy Serkis. [url]

To fix the prequels you would have to rewrite the second and third to what they would have been if Lucas didn't chicken out and stick in the count.

  Actually, there's already a 'fixed' version of the prequels. If you can find them, the Magnolia Fan Edits make the prequels worth watching. A few cuts, some sub-titles, and a little editing makes the story lines coherent and much more dramatic than the official versions.

  No, the Count was essential. Otherwise who would have been the dark apprentice? Certainly not JarJar Binks, who certainly was not essential to either movie. And except for the battle scene wasn't essential for the first movie.
