DailyDirt: Defend Yourself! (Or Give Peace A Chance...)

from the urls-we-dig-up dept

John Lennon's "Happy Christmas (War is over)" song used to be routinely played on the radio towards the end of the year, but it seems that folks either "like" or "really hate" holiday songs (and that Baby Boomers are still in control of popular holiday music). In any case, if you received a shiny new "Official Red Ryder Carbine-Action Two-Hundred-Shot Range Model Air Rifle" last weekend, here are some other advanced weapons that you might shoot your eye out with. By the way, StumbleUpon can recommend some good Techdirt articles, too.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

The real target for all these "non-lethal" solutions are the average citizens

Given that NATO and the U.S. DoD define "temporary blindness" as "temporary or permanent" has a frightening implication: value your eyesight? Don't protest or stand up for your rights.

Police officers have already shown citizens that pepper spray and tazers aren't exactly "friendly" weapons for crowd control....

Hopefully, demonstrators won't create an "arms race" of non-lethal weaponry.

Hopefully ... the human race will wake the hell up and realize much of their activities are counter productive.

Yeah I know - dream on.

It's actually questionable IF tazers are non-lethal. At least one Canadian police agency has been instructed by the courts and a coroner to treat them as such after a nasty death at Vancouver International Airport some years back.

(The RCMP, by the way, and, in the way of the RCMP there's no knowing if they've actually complied.)

Most law enforcement types consider the tazer to be a means of administering encouragement (aka torture).

    Fun Fact

Tasers and stun guns are illegal in the state of Wisconsin. Air-compression powered projectiles, however, are not.

    someday

Someday, maybe 3 years from now, it will all be a domino effect. Some huge company will take all there domains when they expire, and others will follow suit. That is what I expect. These things are all rather slow but I expect to see a new dominate player hoster in 3 years.
