The Continuing Adventures Of Copyright Man... Episode 1
from the take-this-spielberg dept
On Friday, Mike was nice enough to share his Xtranormal video with us, which went through the usual arguments and rebuttals surrounding the all-encompassing evil that is copyright infringement. It was informative, entertaining, and even provided us with some of the best original soundtrack music this side of a John Williams composition. Sadly, one commenter was not impressed:
"good first effort. i think your missing an important point, though. what makes these things go viral is that they are funny. yours was just kind of dry." -- sumquy
I agree, non-profiled commenter whose naming convention has become something of an obsessive mystery to me (I mean, is it supposed to sound like "some guy"? Is it a math joke? A reference to Karate Kid evil dojo Cobra Kai?). That's why I'm pleased to announce the latest (somewhat NSFW) blockbuster (or should I say Netflix?) from Dark Helmet Studios: The Uselessness Of Copyright(Man).
Gone are the intelligent arguments, subtle distinctions, and overall professionalism. I replaced them all with a metro-erotic costume and a cod piece!
In any case, while I thought mine was mildly funny, I'm willing to bet the Techdirt community can do even better. I've shown you mine (well, covered by a cod piece at least), so feel free to show me yours.
Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

How does one request a refund of...
3 minutes. Gone forever in the blink of an eye.
I had expected to see the cod piece adorned on our lovely Dark Helmet, but nooooo. Instead, we get some pansy dressed in tights designed to blind us.
I feel duped and I want my free back, please.
As for trading... pass. I could do better, but then I'd have to find a way to ensure it wouldn't get passed around like some drunk girl at a college frat party and this means I'd have to fight against copyright, and the battle so far isn't going so well.
But it's nice to see another defender of the cause... regardless how poorly they're dressed.
*snickers*

The good news is thanks to copyright you can't share how awful I am at this with anyone else.

If you think so poorly of this site, why do you obsessively refresh this site every 3-5?
I'm starting to believe Masnick trolls his own site :)
I agree it was mildly funny. If you want really funny, I can't point you toward about 5 South Park episodes that demonstrate the absurdity of IP law and the actions of the copyright cartel that even you couldn't deny (well, you probably could).

Re: Re:
Right?"
Much in the same manner as Inception, I've created this masterpiece in a way that leaves it open to the interpretation of the individual, thereby highlighting the film's stance on state of the human condition.
Or maybe I just wanted Copyright Man to look foolish.
It's definitely one of the two....

Re: The Bottom of the Barrel
No, it's lowering the bar into the barrel and using said bar to scrape the bottom.

Think of it as an uneasy alliance: sometimes us thinking folk must band together in the face of inscrutable idiocy

once upon a time there lived the greatest teenage hacker in all the world. his handle was 5umquy, cuz all the cool hackers had cool screen names. months and years went by and one day the hacker realized he wasn't a hacker after all. he was just another netsysadmin. kept the handle, anyway.
