Public Knowledge Offering $1,000 For Creating A Better 'Copyright School' Video Than YouTube's
from the where's-copyright-man-when-you-need-him... dept
Following Google's decision to create a misleading, myth perpetuating video, supposedly to teach people accused of infringement about copyright law... Public Knowledge has set up a contest offering $1,000 to whoever can create the "best" copyright school video that helps teach people about copyright. Quick! Someone break out the giant © symbol and call on Copyright Man to come help save the day...Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

You're betting your life on how content you have no control over will be distributed.
You never really had anything truly original to offer, did you?
What's it like, living your life as a lie?

Re:
The point is that copyright and other IP law is like playing Minesweeper blindfolded, with one hand tied behind your back. The law should, ideally, be clear, concise and to-the-point. Not the tawdry mess it is today. It doesn't promote progress and the arts; it propagates aloowing others to innovate, then suing them out of existence. That's not the 'free market' that true capitalism is about.
So how about you base your arguments on facts, and not logic-twisting that would make the best contortionist in the world look like a rank amateur?

We all know you couldn't care less about that. Its effect on you is ZERO.

"You're betting your life on how content you have no control over will be distributed."
Yea... But so is the RIAA and MPAA. They bet on physical media distribution in the age of 50Mbps internet.. whoops.
"You never really had anything truly original to offer, did you?"
He had some cool T-shirts a while back, but really the reason we're here is to get Mike's opinion on issues. Otherwise we could just scrap CNN's technology page, Engadget, and reddit ourselves.
"What's it like, living your life as a lie"
I don't know what it's like, but I imagine it's similar to living your life with your head in the sand, and I imagine you have a pretty good idea of what that feels like by now.

Re:
It seems that statement would apply significantly more to you than to me. I've not bet my life on any such thing. You have. I'm just trying to help you handle the consequences of not just your bet, but your refusal to recognize how to make the most of your situation.
It's really bizarre how you like to blame the messenger who's trying to help you.
