DailyDirt: Defying Nature -- The Quest For A Longer Life And Eternal Youth

from the urls-we-dig-up dept

In the quest for a longer life and eternal youth, people have come up with many different (and sometimes crazy) theories on how to get there. Add years to your life with vitamins, supplements, and hormones! Eat this, not that! Postpone death with suspended animation! Here are just a few examples of possible ways to increase our lifespan. If you'd like to read more awesome and interesting stuff, check out this unrelated (but not entirely random!) Techdirt post.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

By that logic, it would have done so already. The "spiritual" types are already free to die young if they want.

Calorie restriction likely doesn't prolong life

Just recently new research results likely indicate that calorie restriction probably won't prolong live in monkeys, making it likely that it won't work in humans as well.

Whic h is kind of sad, as I was about to jump on and try it out. Still there's nothing wrong with calorie restriction, as the monkeys in the study seemed to live healthier than the control group - and obesity is definitely a risk of dying unneccessary early. But it probably won't prolong your life as it does in rats and worms.
