DailyDirt: Game On
from the urls-we-dig-up dept
In the grand scheme of things, video games are still a fairly young medium of art and entertainment, with lots of room for advancement and a lot of aspects we don't fully understand. They are also insanely popular, and changing faster than anyone can fully keep track of. Here are a few recent tidbits from the vibrant world of gaming:
- An Oculus Rift simulation of the iconic Seinfeld apartment has raised an interesting question: does the uncanny valley exist for virtual spaces like it does for people? There's been no true scientific study yet, but the simulation does look a bit creepy, even without the virtual reality immersion. [url]
- Studies suggest that gaming can have a big impact on the way we dream. Gamers are more likely to experience lucid dreams, and less likely to be upset by nightmares. Instead, they often find them exciting. [url]
- If you really want someone to remember your business card, try building a fully playable Tetris game into it. The Arduino-powered card has a screen, buttons, sound and a high-score board — and it's only a bit thicker than a penny. [url]

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

Nightmares -> Action dreams
Funny enough, when I get 'weapons' to use against the monsters/aliens, it's always bloody waterpistols. Sure, they work against them, but they are not COOL!

Re: Nightmares -> Action dreams
Whenever I get weapons in my dreams, to deal with some kind of threat, they never work properly. All the bullets are duds, or the gun is disassembled and I can't find all the pieces, or the sword breaks, etc.
