Dashcams can catch some pretty amazing footage. A dashcam in Taiwan captured dramatic and frightening footage of a plane crashing into the river.

Some of the videos posted from Russia show just how crazy drivers and pedestrians can be. But sometimes these dashcams can also capture some awe-inspiring moments, like when the Chelyabinsk meteor exploded over the Ural Mountains in February 2013:

  But at least it's better than making bogus product claims. The good news is that the Techdirt Sales Corps is listening, and this comment will hopefully be taken into account, as these sales pitches continue to evolve into something that's effective at moving product without treading too painfully on people's sensibilities -- or insulting their intelligence.
  
  One issue that might get Techdirt into trouble is the use of embedded YouTube videos on a dedicated sales page. Per YouTube's Terms of Service:
  
  You agree not to use the Service for any of the following commercial uses unless you obtain YouTube's prior written approval:
  
  *the sale of access to the Service;
  
  *the sale of advertising, sponsorships, or promotions placed on or within the Service or Content;
  
  *the sale of advertising, sponsorships, or promotions on any page of an ad-enabled blog or website containing Content delivered via the Service, unless other material not obtained from YouTube appears on the same page and is of sufficient value to be the basis for such sales.

  That's not to imply that these embedded videos would necessarily violate YouTube's TOS, or to suggest that Techdirt likely never received permission from YouTube for such use. Or if Youtube even cares to enforce such policies. But it would be nice to know before YouTube's legal team were to introduce themselves.

Not sure I like the location, etc. Time stamp sure, but would rather have a simple recording device. One that I could detach and rotate easily.

I think I would like one of these, but no where can I find the medium it records to. A micro SD card of up to xxxGB size? Internal storage of only 512MB?

Would be nice if the product page actually said how much storage it has, what format, etc.

You too can capture tragic events in HD.
Using a recent tragic event to sell dashcams is bad, its the kind of story i would expect to see on Techdirt not about Techdirt.

  A high percentage of Tim Cushing's stories are about police violence, often of the lethal type, most of which would not even be stories if not for video cameras being around to capture the action. So video cameras certainly fit in with Techdirt's "theme" -- even though this ad misses the mark somewhat. While the showing of a plane wreck serves little purpose other than shock value, video of police brutality serves an important function of immense benefit to society.
  
  Just as another Techdirt writer, Michael Ho, is now including a plug for Techdirt's online shop in the closing of all his articles, maybe Tim Cushing could do likewise. Perhaps something like this ...
