Daily Deal: Aduro Surge Protector With 6 Outlets & 2 USB Ports
from the good-deals-on-cool-stuff dept
Powerstrips are handy, but sometimes you just need more outlets at the wall. For $19, the Aduro Surge Protector has you covered. It features 6 grounded outlets and 2 USB charge ports, and it comes with an extra long screw you can use in place of the wall plate screw to help provide extra stabilization. The Safety Shutdown Technology protects your devices from power surges, and a lighted indicator lets you know that you're protected.Note: The Techdirt Deals Store is powered and curated by StackCommerce. Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

I'm not impressed with the "Power up to 7 devices at once" on a unit clearly having 8 outlets (2 USB).
I'm not impressed with the lack of a guarantee should the device not do what it claims.
"$250,000 Ultimate Lifetime Insurance (U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico only)"
This was taken from the Tripp Lite (a corded surge protector) I am currently using.
When a company is putting its own money behind its products, this gives me great confidence I can hook up $4k+ worth of electronics to it.
This unit does not instill the same confidence, so I'm going to pass on the deal.

Re:
You should read the disclaimers on those products that claim to insure you up to $100,000 worth in damages or whatever. You may have to prove that a surge caused the damage to your equipment. You may also have to prove the value of what was damaged (the current fair market value not the cost of purchase). Thirdly the insurance associated with some of those surge protectors may only be valid for a limited time after purchase (I've read some that explicitly stated a number of years and others may have an indicator light). I've also read message boards on these with mixed reviews. One recommendation is to keep receipts for everything as proof (ie: the damaged equipment when you purchased it and the surge protector). In general I would not rely on those warranties.
