Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

Certification not included, certification is required by a third party with additional fees.

Certifications are not a good measure of ones skills

Passing a certifications exam simply means one is good at memorizing information, talking tests and wasting money.

Re: Certifications are not a good measure of ones skills

Passing certifications means the difference between shite Helpdesk jobs and SysAdmin jobs, no matter what you or I think of the uselessness of a piece of paper vs. actual experience. Hiring IT managers won't even call you back without certs except for $10/hr entry level craphole jobs, and even then they want at least A+ these days.

Re: Re: Certifications are not a good measure of ones skills

I've known people who own their own IT businesses (some even have employees under them) that make more money than they could ever make (or have ever made) working for someone else. Granted, most of them do have a college education in a field such as computer science or related. But the point is, just like with any business, the only thing you really need are the clients, the know how (and even then in some situations the know how can just be someone you hire), and the required licensing as necessary by law and the rest flows from there
