Daily Deal: Skybell Wi-Fi Doorbell

from the good-deals-on-cool-stuff dept

See who is at your front door, even when you're not at home, with the Skybell Wi-Fi Doorbell, available for 25% off ($149) in the deals store. The Skybell connects to your home's Wi-Fi network to alert you on your phone when anyone is at the door. It has a built-in microphone and speaker so you can talk with whoever is there. The camera senses when someone is present even if they do not press the bell, or you can turn on the camera from your phone and watch who passes by your door with on-demand viewing, even at night. The app works with iOS 4 and later and Android 4.1 and later devices, and the Skybell attaches to your wired, mechanical chimes.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

Is this a deal? It looks like Amazon is selling the same product for the same price, with assuredly faster shipping.

This is the stupidest idea ever ... criminal walks to door sees camera ... knocks on door to see if anyone home (door cam is a trap , because commercials) .. proceeds to break in because no one answers.

How is that a different scenario if there's just a regular doorbell?

As someone who lives in an old, multi-story house, with a quiet doorbell that can't be heard from any but the ground floor, I'll say that this idea is intriguing.

Wireless doorbells have been available for many years now. Check you local home improvement store for a large selection.

A regular doorbell won't give you a nice snapshot of the person who just broke into your house?
