Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

    Security? Security? Bueller?

Any encryption? Or are the files just sent in the clear and stored on anonymous FTP servers? Who can decrypt?

What do you all think of this company? How long do you expect them to be around? When a company starts offering discounted lifetime pricing on one of its services, I tend to think that I'm really paying for about 3 years of something before it folds for good. I'm not sure I'm jumping at this deal, especially since they're kind of vague about privacy and encryption of the data I send...

    So slow

After having to reinstall and restart twice due to program crashes I now have 34GB uploaded after 5 months of 15 hour/day use! Upload speeds as low as 18 KB/s from Australia. I have a fast cable connection and wondered whether connection to the server from here is very poor. Other cloud backups I use upload quickly. If you are in Australia I would think twice about investing in this service.

Terminated lifetime service without a worning

They just terminated lifetime service and deleted all my data (if they realy did) without any warning. My account just dissapeared, and no answer from their support.

Same thing happened to me :(

Bought the service through NewAtlas site at 28/01/2016. The terminated the service in less than a year.

Anyone know how to get a refund?

Likewise, my account was terminated this morning, as is the genius-rescue website gone, I have contacted Techdirt, and live drive (as that is the reseller) to find out if the company is still in operation.

    Genius Rescue

    Genius Rescue is no more.

After contacting live drive (The company to which Genius Rescue are a reseller of) they confirmed that the company terminated their sellers account on the 20th of January, and in fact, the way in which Genius Rescue was conducting their business is in breach of the reseller conditions - I have contact Techdirt direct in regards this response as they should have been selling something which is in breach of the conditions of the supplier, if I get a response I'll update this further.

In regards your data, for anyone in the future, the live drive can migrate data from their account but only if you act quickly data will be removed altogether on the 1st of Feb 2017.

So you have just a few short days to sign up to live drive it costs £5 per machine or £48 per year. The way I found out this infirmation was to contact sales @ livedrive.com who were very helpful informing me of all the details.

    Hope this helps someone

    Alex

    Re: Genius Rescue

A little more of an update, my instructions for those who wish to try and get live drive reinstated, will need to contact live drive direct, they will then within 48 hours reactive your account (there is no need to create an account first). They(live drive) will provide a 30-day trial after which in order to continue using your drive you would need to pay live drive direct.
