New Gear For Section 230 Fans: Otherwise Objectionable
from the two-big-words dept
Get your Otherwise Objectionable gear in the Techdirt store on Threadless »
If Section 230(c)(1) contains "the twenty-six words that created the internet", then (c)(2) contains the words that gave them some critical help. Among those words are two that are especially important, "otherwise objectionable", as they turn a limited list of specific content that can be removed into an open-ended protection for platform operators to moderate as they choose — and now you can wear them proudly with our new gear on Threadless.
As usual, there's a wide variety of gear available in this and other designs — including t-shirts, hoodies, notebooks, buttons, phone cases, mugs, stickers, and of course the now-standard face masks. Check out all our designs and items in the Techdirt store on Threadless!
Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.
Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.
While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

if it weren't for the fact that my last two orders from threadless took three weeks to deliver, i might be interested (last one: ordered Aug 19, delivered Sep 5).

Re:
Wow. If that isn't a sign of what society has become in the "instant gratification" age I'm not sure what is. Remember "Please allow 6-8 weeks for delivery"?

You...do remember that we're in the middle of a global pandemic? Disrupted logistics and all that?

Re: Re:
Plus, the well-documented problems that the USPS is having due to deliberate sabotage ahead of the election. Plus, the fact that Threadless says to allow 3-5 working days before dispatch as the items are made to order, so there's a delay built in anyway.

it wasn't USPS (once they received it, they delivered in two days).
the issue is Threadless uses DHL. DHL took thirteen days to tender to the USPS (and called it "expedited small package").
if you believe these are custom made, may i interest you in a bridge?

So, your issue is with DHL, and not with Threadless as you originally implied? Maybe that would be worth mentioning in the original post rather than badmouthing Threadless on a site that uses them to generate income. I'm glad to see USPS delivered quickly for you, but you should be blaming the correct party up front.
"if you believe these are custom made, may i interest you in a bridge?"
You're the one who bought the product that has this claim clearly in the FAQs:

Re: Re:
my response from Threadless from back in July (my first order) when i asked them why the DHL middleman, when they could just ship via USPS: "We use DHL Smartmail since they can get both local and international orders to the local post for the final delivery, but sorry for any delays and let me know if you have any other questions. We're happy to help! "

Re: Re: Re:
So, yes your issue is still with DHL. You might disagree with the fact that Threadless have made a logistics choice to use a single provider, rather than having to use multiple providers with different costs and capabilities depending on target location because you think there was an easier way for your single parcel, but your main issue is still that DHL didn't do their job in a timely manner.
