Network Solutions Wants Money Upfront

from the policy-changes dept

Only six years after they should have done something Network Solutions is requiring money upfront for domains. This is to prevent the squatters who buy up a ton, without paying for them, hoping to sell them off. I hope this also means that they're looking to change just about everything about what they do. For instance, isn't it about time they let you "manage" your domains via a web page, rather than the silly emails that have to go back and forth to get anything done, and which no one understands? Anyway, some people think the timing of the decision is questionable. I agree. They should have done this years ago.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

Register.com lets you manage via webpage

Register.com, a test vehicle for letting another service let you register domain names. Actually does let you manage your domain online, so that is pretty cool. But it has its problems, but since they are new id have to forgive them. (Lets give them 10 years :)
