Getting a quicker genome

from the genes-not-jeans dept

A leading company in human genome mapping (identifying the genes present in human DNA), Celera has announced that it may begin talks again with a public consortium of research institutes also involved in human genome mapping. The advantage of these two groups working together would be a faster identification of all human genes (possibly even as early as the year 2000), which would allow researchers to identify and possibly treat genetic diseases much sooner. This would also assist all those biotech startups, that are hungry for fresh genetic information to work on.
