Wireless Questions

from the what's-going-to-happen dept

Both News.com and Wired put out stories this afternoon wondering where wireless is going. The News.com article focuses on getting content providers to work with the 4 line screens they get. The Wired article looks at what the wireless "killer app" might be. Both give some good background info on this whole wireless world... Update: Seems like a popular topic today, as Fortune and E-Commerce Times also have stories. Fortune's discusses some of the companies in the space as well as some of the social questions that wireless brings up. The E-Commerce Times piece gives a general overview of the wireless world.

Thank you for reading this Techdirt post. With so many things competing for everyone’s attention these days, we really appreciate you giving us your time. We work hard every day to put quality content out there for our community.

Techdirt is one of the few remaining truly independent media outlets. We do not have a giant corporation behind us, and we rely heavily on our community to support us, in an age when advertisers are increasingly uninterested in sponsoring small, independent sites — especially a site like ours that is unwilling to pull punches in its reporting and analysis.

While other websites have resorted to paywalls, registration requirements, and increasingly annoying/intrusive advertising, we have always kept Techdirt open and available to anyone. But in order to continue doing so, we need your support. We offer a variety of ways for our readers to support us, from direct donations to special subscriptions and cool merchandise — and every little bit helps. Thank you.

    Great Wired Article Quote

This quote from the Wired article just about sums up the current situtation with wireless data:

"We're sort of hitting the peak of the hype cycle and heading toward the trough of disillusionment," said Bob Egan, research director at Gartner Group.

    Doh!
