Re: Re: Streaming vs wire vs wireless vs broadcast
I do have gigabit service. What I did not address clearly is the software sending the stream to the screen is more of a quality killer than hardware.
Amazon Prime Video streams play via Fire Stick are perfect over my wifi. Same for Netflix - 4K untested.
When stuck waiting for a task to complete I will use Chrome or Firefox, for example, to watch Netflix or Amazon - quality goes down. It makes me crazy because all the control for DRM is software.
As for the cable feed - get what is delivered.
Devices like tablets are solid unless wifi is hotel grade.
No Fiber in this area, out in the woods but close enough to get gigabit.
Streams make me lose my mind if I am in a browser. Tablets are nice but a big screen is what it is all about.
On mobile screen I just figure the ability to watch is handy. Streams get into a "wifi required" tangle depending on content.
Comcast via "box" and Internet is darn good. However, there are changes on how rent/buy/free work. Can be painful. The cable is still the only quality screen because not TCP.
The Amazon, Netflix, Xfinity stream quality never will be as good as compressed cable. From software DRM issues and network traffic to device issues Internet streams always have less quality.
Do not get me started on how SD and HD are just marketing if you don't have hardware. Even you tube looks good on Amazon TV Stick, most of the time. Hardware!
I went with Comcast years ago like wen Showtime had Ron Harris girls. Yeah, that long. At one time I had all that was offered. As the cool cable networks got bought up by broadcast networks I have reduced my bill.
Comcast Internet: I spend $ for fast. Channels: no HBO, Cinemax, Starz, Showtime.
Any special series or movie I have Amazon Prime Video and Netflix.. No Disney, CBS, others. WGNa now does deal that new series are blocked on Comcast but not on telcomm that makes wireless deal - See Almost Paradise on WGNa.
Good bye to studios that made great series and movies because, He That Dies With The Most Toys Win.
After reading all the comments in IA blog post I noticed the view of royalty payments to the author for every barrow (Canada, UK). Not sure what that does. The publishers pay the author for his work, every sale on amazon is recorded by publisher. Percentage of sale to author per publisher contract is sent to author.
Library is not Amazon retail but deal directly with publishers. The books are bought and lending is done. Publishers want to have all use of digital to be a lease contract controlled by them.
I have shifted to audio format of hardbound fiction already boxes (stacks of paperback also) and love it. Already I have to buy ebook + audio on Amazon. That is a publisher demand as far as I can tell. Retail so I deal with it. If a library is forced into PPV model, meaning every borrow is fee based then digital lend becomes to expensive.
Just a thought as I am only reader not a specialist.

The car example.
Old car under 100,000 miles on it started breaking. Some parts warranty, some parts not covered. Tried to get codes on out of the car's computer each time but got nothing - towed to dealer. There is not a single system on cars that are repairable outside the dealer -- No information.
Her brand new car is a spaceship of screens and driver awareness software and auto safety systems. I told her to get the best extended coverage offered by Subaru. Prepay the required checkup visits. No way to avoid this expensive feature. It is pretty like a race horse and high priced to operate.
This is not a movie script right? Sorry, may as well RFID chip my body too.
Good plan but it is too intrusive:
1) NO --"Digital COVID passports that could grant those with immunity or an all-clear from a COVID test the right to enter stores, malls, hotels, and other spaces may well be on the way."
2) THEY WILL -- "The potential for law enforcement and corporate actors alike to abuse these tracking systems is just too great to ignore."
3) And because Latinx people do not exist i have to pull the emergency brake: The workers don't need tracking, they need to be tested at the work site. And work site needs to do the recommended procedures to control virus(s).
'Black and Latinx people are more likely to work as cashiers in grocery stores, in nursing homes, or in other service-industry jobs that make infection far more likely. Many such workers are already subject to pervasive and punitive workplace surveillance regimes. "

Telecoms can't help being what they are. Before DARPA experiment in distributed fault tolerant communications became pre-WWW, the phone companies owned the wired communications -- There was a mess of data transfer methods and very expensive hardware.
Remember POT line price in minutes of use? Data cap is natural. HBO Max is the new trophy wife. Poor thing has HBO Go stepchild to cable, the ex-wives, AT&T TV with children from several hookups.
The HBO/Cinemax (Open Marriage) is in divorce - Actually the whole Cinemax production and development is pimped to streaming/cable without new original series - I expect it will be the wife that disappears.
Whatever I am paying to get old fun HBO/Cinemax on all platforms is al a cart now (Amazon Cinemax monthly), Xfinity Streaming HBO via apps and cable. What I cannot get is HBO Max on Amazon Prime/TV Stick/Kindle/OnePlus/iPads, and most likely iMac is too out of DRM date.
I will not signup, e.g. sign a contract with AT&T wireless Hotspot on Subaru Forester. That is like saying that Leopard won't bite me.
Will T-mobile make some kind of deal for app? Sorry, that was a creepy thought.
HBO Max in the final form, in my case, is the crazy aunt that has many get rich schemes and make money by flipping low rent row houses is the latest.
Opinion Alert: Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, all the other OTT may not get pinched until AT&T build up is 4K HBO Max. Unlimited is not unlimited for At&T users (Does Cell data at 4G and [_G] cap?)
Will I dump Xfinity and rely on T-mobile 4G for all content. No. Xfinity streaming and catalogue are on all devices. I won't get a bill; drunken sailor had a party and few hundred GB streaming over weekend - Netflix and Prime Video nonstop.
Exclusive Content: AT&T #FlimFlam 'cause the efficient new content production is thrown in the tower. Warner, that not so bright guy that keeps making bad streaming ideas is the last straw.
Unless there is magically the best thing ever product at a too good to be true price.
RIP HBO/Cinemax.
It depends on what deal is made - Roku folks have a seat at the table. In my case I have Amazon Fire TV sticks, Kindle Old and Kindle brand new, iPads, android mobiles, wayback iMac 27" intel, and Comcast. Why?
All content distribution is controlled by the holder. Amazon makes deals to offer stream via Prime. AT&T sees Amazon as the enemy.
The latest twist to live and stream ondemand is WGNa blocking Comcast viewers from all of "Almost Paradise" but Fios users no cost. I went to Amazon and bought season 1 with next day stream - 1 eps a week 10 episodes.
So, there will be turf wars on every device. Since I have Xfinity wired from box trying to mirror xfinity stream app on Kindle to Big TV fails.
HBO/Cinemax Quality Series via Hands-off The Creator - RIP
Cinemax has helped several stories get on cable via the Premium Channels Bundle - HBO/Cinemax, Starz, Showtime. The Cinemax channel was more adult than HBO and as "Banshee" Deputy Siobhan Kelly (Trieste Kelly Dunn) said during an interview, "Telling my father I was in a Cinemax series was [interesting] because it had pushed the limits in sex scenes and everyone knew that. [ed: some paraphrase liberty by me for safe language] ".
HBO let Cinemax productions test new stories without binding the writer(s) and director(s) to oversight and loss of creative control. Win for all.
Series : Strikeback, Banshee and some movies were violent, sexual, and did not waste this viewers time. Some other complex stories did not draw my attention but as my wife said "there are stories I like. Don't be greedy". Cinemax is out of the production business, is split off into its own subscription (Amazon has best price so far). I won't pay for HBO outside of Comcast for 1) Not much content for me, 2) $15 month is a deal breaker.
I predict AT&T toss crappy TV in its HBO Max product with some movies from quality collections and have a "few" streaming deals at a respectable price. However, it will do what it does - piss off everyone in any way possible because AT&T only understands "profit center".
RIP HBO/Cinemax. Tip: Buy DVD and/or Blu-ray if you like a series (double check Burn-Ondemand disks - Amazon does good work but the master may be only aired episodes without any background shorts).
Why was there a war to kick British Army and Navy to the other side of the big pond?
Right. Here is the really short version:
The 13 colonies were owned by the king through various trade company deals and charters, some with stockholders who expected gains on their investments. So, profits require no overhead - Dutch slave traders windfall.
King is in as much money as South American cartel, however, people get taxed up the butt, redcoats start doing riot control. Bang people die.
It goes without saying in this very simplified summary that as soon as the cops start killing people without justification there will be more violence.
The USA exists because the kings cops treated everyone like police treat black people. (A note: Only the selected few had power from the King to execute so called law breaker. Our police have that power now and we have to take it away.)
