I never listen to stuff older than the 70's but it would be interesting if SiriusXM just started a loop on channel 6 (60's music) explaining that copyright law is so screwed up that they won't ever be playing 60's music again.
Ditto 50's on 5 and the big band channel on channel 4.
If those artists are all greedy bastards, why the hell would I want to listen to their stuff anyway. Oh and if other older artists currently being paid by the royalty companies and deciding not to sue get hurt by the blackout of pre-60s music, then I guess it sucks to be them.
SiriusXM is routinely painted as a evil supervillan by the music industry, but Sirius are the ones being seriously abused by a horrible copyright system.
It boggles my mind to think that anyone can believe "if you have nothing to hide you have nothing to fear" is at all reasonable. I mean its the kind of shit the fucking Nazi's said.
Anyone who believes that is not just wrong, but is unwittingly arguing for evil.
Re: "It's the entire government," plus willing mega-corporations.
So, ootb, should we also call for the return to the good old days when copyright had reasonable terms? Or is the the Federal Copyright Government ok , but the Federal Everything Else Government is naturally corrupt?
Dude, I so totally don't get how you can be so cognitively dissonant.
Lost in this issue of NSA surveillance, is the fact that before the story broke President Obama gave a speech at Ohio State admonishing his political opponents and citizens at large for their lack of trust that the government is doing what's best for us.
IMHO, he really really really wants us to believe that the government is good. Its just to bad he has to hide all these not so nice things about it from us.
The White House doesn't want to "rebuild" trust per se, they just want to be granted trust. Without all the responsibility and honest dealings that would be required of them to actually _earn_ it.
It is fairly disturbing how much Obama seems bothered that there are still some people out there that do not fawn all over everything he does.
Re: We need to re-establish an expectation of privacy
I absolutely loved the email I got from AT&T in mid June telling me how much the "respect" my privacy when it comes to sharing my data with other companies.
I couldn't believe it. I really could care less how they share anonymous data with other companies, I care about them giving all that identifiable information to my government so it can watch me!
It would be nice if we lived in a world where whistleblowers like Snowden were protected and lying sniveling civil "servants" who worked at the IRS could be forced to tell us, the people, how they carried out their jobs.
But alas, we don't live in that world.
Why the hell does anyone continue to trust this administration at all!
Forget about there being a risk that the government will misuse their surveillance information, what we're seeing now is proof that the government is misusing their surveillance information.
People who call themselves libertarian are pretty pissed off. Also, most people who call themselves libertarian consistently vote for Republicans. I know that has been true in my case.
I used to think Christie might make a good President, but not any more. He's lost my vote forever with this shit. Fuck him and the party he rode in on.
If there's one way the Republicans guarantee a loss in 2016, this is it.
I must say that I find it incredibly interesting that the abortion clinic regulations that have been passed in Texas are being ridiculed so heavily by the progressives. It'll put them out of business? You don't say. Regulations impact businesses and impose costs on them?? Reallly??!!
I'd actually give a shit about their arguments if they'd ever ever ever, even once stood up against regulating ANY other industry. Why is it that other businesses need to suck it up and deal with all the regulations the progressives love? But when its the abortion industry that is facing regulations, then it'll "put them out of business"? Progressives have never worried about business' abilities to deal with regulations up to now. So screw them on this one. Either you admit regulations affect businesses uniformly or shut the hell up.
Re: TRUE! You need to stop pretending gov't is EVER good.
It still boggles my mind how you can have so much hatred of the rich and be so fucking clueless that the media companies arguing for special copyright treatment from the government are those same rich bastards you hate so much.
That's what makes him such a terrifying politician.
He needs to look in the damn mirror. El Presidente's in banana republics use these kind of tactics over their subjects all the time. I am sick and tired of our politicians trying to emulate petty dictators!!
