I don't think this goes far enough. You shouldn't be allowed to talk to a police officer without permission. You also shouldn't be allowed to look at them cross-eyed. After all, how can they protect you if they're busy talking to you, or wondering what you're thinking?
Of course the NFL would freak out. We can't let mommy even consider that her precious snowflake might get hurt, or else no mommy ever will let her children play football again!
Hah, I was just looking for that story, I remembered it as well.
The number of crazy looks I got in the states when I mentioned Smarties and chocolate in the same sentence... I had to educate so many people about the joys of Canadian candy.
Actually there may be some blame to throw around. American Homeland Security puts a lot of pressure on Canada to 'bring their security into compliance'. I've no doubt that they made security demands to increase security to match US standards.
And yet they still have to re-check my bags every time I fly from Canuckistan to the states, and have stop-over in some American city. I just love sitting on my connecting flight and listening to people around me griping because they have to do a luggage check of the international luggage.

4 items are cited because those are the 4 items the agent used to justify the seizure without any adversarial hearing. The importance of this story isn't the number of items overall, it's that these specific items were used to justify what should be unjustifiable using these items.
And how is providing a link to a song released for free 'working without permission, or working outside of the limits of what is normally permitted'? Last time I looked, linking to freely released content was pretty normal.
When I first saw this article, I saw a lot of people saying sue her for damages caused by the sun, but trespass on the space between... I really like that. kudos.
Why is it so hard for people like Griggs to realize that if she were to just suck it up, accept the blame, and apologize, that she'd receive a lot more good will, or at least a lot less negative publicity. Rationalizing and trying to justify things when you're in the wrong just makes it worse.
I never could figure out, while growing up, how some of these rock n roll stars could pass themselves off as anti-establishment when they were signed to these giant companies and distributed at stores in the mall. The kids trying to make it in the business and using the internet to do so are the ones that are really bucking the establishment.

I used to bring Coffee Crisp and Smarties for the other Canadians at my college after weekend trips to my parents' place.
I suppose I'm glad now that I never tried to bring Kinder Surprise.
