Really? I thought it showed that people are waking up to fact that multi Billion dollar industries have been buying laws through campaign contributions.
Of course over there in Shillville where you lobbyists live you think that is the norm. One day it'll bite you in the backside and you'll be either living off welfare checks or getting cabbage soup from the local kitchen.
Books? You might want to break that publishing revenue down a bit. The upswing may be related to people buying self help books, or going back to school and buying books for school. There are reasons for things to happen. You might also want to point out that, with new ebook technology, there is a bit of a run on older titles as people try to rebuild their libraries, in a similar manner to what happened when music moved to CDs.
Just a snippet of what you wrote but... do you agree then that the fall in CD sales may not be down to piracy but due to "the run on older titles as people try to rebuild their music libraries" with CDs?
I'm not... Google deindexing .co.cc websites must have been a business based decision and as I said as a private entity they are well within their rights to do it.
You really need to start to understand the difference between buisnesses "censoring" content based on business based decisions and Governments doing co because they can.
When being ordered to by a Court yes, Twitter could censor what it likes as it is its own private entity, like Google/Bing could censor search results... none of them do (unless ordered by a Court) as removing content/links would affect them as businesses.
They may well be... who knows how many people purchased the documentaries after they had downloaded them first. All I'm saying is that we never made money from the site, barely enough to cover the costs. You comment proves nothing here other than their is possibly "no honour amongst thieves".
Our demographic, after Western norms (US/Can/UK/EU/AUS, were largely eastern European and emerging nations who didn't have access to the material in their region. Do you know how many really good documentaries are locked away at extortionate retail/rental pricing? $450 to rent a set of VHS tapes for a week!! We set up a specific group who just trawled online/offline Library catalogs looking for them.
I worked as an Admin/Mod on a fairly large bittorrent site dedicated to sharing documentaries and I can tell you that over 5 years I never made a penny and neither did anyone else. We just about managed to cover our servers which we upgraded yearly and our bandwidth costs, we jumped countries fairly regulatly as well and everytime we did that we had to stump up more and more cash. We had donations but no advertising as the members of the site didn't want them and of the tens of thousands of members we had only a very small % actually donated, time and time again the senior members and staff would chip in $50+ to dig us out of a whole with our provider. If we ever had surplus cash that was "invested" in a rare documentary that would be released as thankyou to our members.
So ignoring the fact that Megaupload cannot be compared to a normal member driven torrent site I'd be seriously amazed to see anyone running a torrent indexing site turning a massive profit if they are also running one or two trackers.
Control, Control, Control... looks like the MPAA/RIAA etc al are getting what they want, with all the cyberlockers shutting their doors they have managed to win without SOPA/PIPA and also cut back on where emerging artists can connect with their fans...
If you cannot control all the gates, close the ones you can't.
So... just to be clear on the subject, content controllers like movie comapnies and music companies that already pay for associations like the MPAA or the RIAA are now also paying for CreativeAmerica?
Looks like we need to get in the game and create our own astroturf organisations so we can get some of the free money that is floating around!
I thought times where hard and that piracy was affecting their balance sheets?
TPB doesn't distribute anything, no copyright infringing files on their servers... go on have a look you won't find a single copy of any movies, music, books, computer programmes, pictures, mobile apps etc.
