"So like I said, if the choice was between copyright as it stands now, or no copyright, I'd be for no copyright, as the deal has been broken, and I don't see why the public should have to hold up their end of the bargain, when the other side isn't."
The massive scale of copyright infringement in all areas of creative work all over the work shows that your feelings are becoming very commonplace.
At this point we've all had this conversation with you at least a dozen times, so it's not worth wasting time and effort on anything other than insults. Other regulars have a pretty good handle on Mike's opinion on copyright, but unfortunately it's not the 'gotcha' answer you so desperately want, so you just keep on keeping' on...
Other than someone overhearing my end of a phone conversation, I have a perfectly reasonable expectation of privacy every frickin' time I use my phone while I'm in a public place.
"As we've covered, police have claimed that non-disclosure agreements with the manufacturers (such as Harris Corp.) prevent them from getting a warrant to use the devices. The DOJ, somewhat famously, had a whole plan for how to mislead judges about the use of these devices..."
These two points should have judges absolutely apoplectic and gunning for any prosecutors who they suspect of using evidence gained by a Stingray device.

Awesome new word of the day -- journamalist
Assuming you meant to suggest Mike is a journalist, Mike has repeatedly corrected this false assumption. This is and always has been an opinion blog. Don't like it? Go read a newspaper.
"...where is the balance for where he his right to his opinion is being held down?"
He has the right to say those things if he wants, but he doesn't have the right to be a law enforcement officer and say those things. This shouldn't really even have to be questioned. Your thought process bothers me...
"It's not much different from slavery, really - "work for me but i don't need to pay you" "
You mean like recording contracts that result artists earning pennies on the dollar from music sales? Or Hollywood accounting that results in movies with massive revenues making no profit on paper? Not much different to slavery right?
Bush was told no more than he needed to allow him plausible deniability. This was an entirely deliberate strategy by the CIA and the White House, and the way it's always been done.
"I wonder if these people would understand "public domain" if we explained it to them as "the public owns the copyright"."
It might help some, but it would still be a bad idea because you're trying to educate someone with incorrect info. If it's in the public domain it simply has no copyright, either because it's expired or it never existed.

"Some Jews get around this by employing a switch with "Halakhic uncertainty" so that even though the performed an action that eventually results in an outcome, the outcome is unpredictable and indirect. "
That link is extraordinary. Sometimes the stupidity of religion doctrines makes me want to bang my head against a wall...
"Well, the information being taken away is the information of where to find certain news items."
Even that info is not being taken away, it's just not being provided in a convenient manner by one particular company. Stop trying to paint this with a censorship brush, it's nothing of the sort.
"Thanks to the cia who interrogated the sobs who killed Soo many americans..."
Basically what you're saying is that you're pretty happy about a (thankfully small) bunch of Americans being just as stupid and evil as those SOB's you refer to. Way to aim high...
"Had it simply played by the rules, while its business model would likely been not as lucrative, it very well may have been able to make a go of it and create a profitable business providing a very useful and much appreciated service."
The fact that there's a complete dearth of Aereo-like services despite the clear demand for such a "a very useful and much appreciated service" is solid evidence that this is simply not true, the retransmission fees are an overwhelming hurdle to running a sustainable start-up.
Just because these fees are a long established practice doesn't mean they are morally defensible and should just be brushed off as an ordinary cost of doing business.
